4 day retreat at Dawson Lodge, Lake Arrowhead CA:
Creating a Children's Photo-Picture Book.
There is little doubt that Children's books are the most sought after commodity in the publishing world at present. A major publisher accepted Dr. Shield's first attempt at a children's picture book within two weeks of submission. "Don Quixote and the Windmills" was originally written for (and included) his granddaughter. The idea came about when he was trying to think of some way to make productive use of a collection of photographs that he had taken in Spain at the location of Don Quixote's famous windmills.
Through the use of some simple basic photo editing techniques that he will teach you, you will have your first Children's full color picture book ready for the publisher /printer in an amazing 4 days!
This workshop is not for everyone! You must own and be able to use a digital camera with removal storage. You must have basic computer skills! (And I mean 'basic'.) And most of all a desire to create something special in the lives of the children who read your finished work.
The courses run from Wednesday evening until Sunday Morning each week during October.
Your tuition includes the following.
- Airport transfer to and from Ontario CA airport to Lake Arrowhead. (1 hr 40 min.)
- Private accommodation at Dawson Lodge (shared facilities)
- All meals and refreshments, coffee , tea, juice or soda.
- Complete photo-editing software.
- Complete hands on instruction from Dr. Peter J. Shield PhD, international award winning photographer/author/broadcaster and archaeologist.
- A full color proof of your first finished Children's picture book within a week of your return home.
You may drive however parking is extremely limited!
Limited computer access is available to students though you are encouraged to bring your own laptop. (wi-fi equipped preferably)
There is a maximum of 5 students per workshop and the retreat lasts for 4 days and 3 nights.

WEDNESDAY
Arrive Wednesday - pick up at Ontario CA airport for transport to Dawson Lodge, Lake Arrowhead at 6pm. (Meet and greet B.B.Q.)with special guest celebrities.
THURSDAY
Thursday: 8am Breakfast -Morning session - general overview - lunch 1pm
Afternoon - Photo shoot at Lake Arrowhead for course content.- 2pm - 5pm,
Dinner 6pm.-7pm (Dawson Lodge)
Evening discussion of to-days shoot. 7pm - 8.30.
FRIDAY
Friday - Breakfast 8am. 9 am -12.30 character picture session and discussion. (10am coffee break) Lunch at 1pm.
Afternoon session . Illustrated lecture on story line composition (Don Quixote) 2pm- 5.30.
6pm BBQ.(Dawson Lodge)
7pm-8.30 review morning character shoot.
SATURDAY
Sat. Breakfast 8am-9am.
9am ? 12.30. Cut and paste! (10.30 coffee break) Lunch 1pm ? 2pm.
Afternoon 2pm ? 5.30pm adding text.
7pm Dinner at Lake Arrowhead!
SUNDAY
Sunday Morning - Breakfast 8.am-9am - Review and Questions.9am- 11am. Lunch 12.pm Depart 1pm.(Transport to Ontario CA airport.)
Retreat cost $1,125.00 inclusive of:
